3:30 PM Concert

What happens when composers begin a composition, when they “stare at the blank page”? If you’ve wondered where composers get their musical ideas, this concert will suggest some answers. Music from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries will demonstrate ways in which composers through the centuries have found their inspiration.

Concert location: Sundin Music Hall, Hamline University

The program features the following works.

  • Concerto No. 4 by Charles Avison, based on music by Domenico Scarlatti
  • Three pieces from “Danzas de Panama,” by William Grant Still
  • “Irish Tune from County Derry,” by Percy Grainger
  • “Rhosymedre,” by Ralph Vaughn Williams
  • “Two Norwegian Airs,” by Edvard Gried
  • “The Pink Panther,” by Henry Mancini.
